At 8:15 a.m., a nuclear weapon was dropped on Hiroshima by an American B-29 bomber, directly killing an estimated 70,000 people, including 20,000 Japanese combatants and 2,000 Korean slave laborers.

By the end of the year, injury and radiation brought the total number of deaths to 90,000–166,000 of the population of around 340,000 to 350,000.

There’s a shadow of a man at Hiroshima
Where he’d pass the noon
In a wonderland at Hiroshima
‘neath the August moon

And the world remembers his face
– remembers the place was here…

Fly metal bird to Hiroshima
And away your load
Speak the magic word to Hiroshima
Let the sky explode

And the world remembers his name
– remembers the flame was here…
Hiroshima

And the world remembers his name
– remembers the flame was here…
Hiroshima

Little Boy was the codename for the atomic bomb dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. After falling for 44.4 seconds, the time and barometric triggers started the firing mechanism.

Little Boy destroyed almost everything within 1.6 kilometres of the point directly under the explosion.

The first effect of the explosion was blinding light, accompanied by radiant heat from the fireball with a surface temperature of 6,000 °C. The  firestorm was roughly 3.2 kilometres in diameter.

Named for Enola Gay Tibbets, the mother of the pilot, Colonel Paul Tibbets, the USAF Boeing B-29 Superfortress bomber became the first aircraft to drop an atomic bomb.

The name was painted on the aircraft nose section a day before. The last survivor of its crew, Theodore Van Kirk, died on July 28, 2014, at the age of 93.

Enola gay, you should have stayed at home yesterday
Oho it can’t describe the feeling and the way you lied
These games you play, they’re gonna end it all in tears someday
Oho Enola gay, it shouldn’t ever have to end this way

It’s 8:15, that’s the time that it’s always been
We got your message on the radio, condition’s normal and you’re coming home
Enola gay, is mother proud of little boy today
Oho, this kiss you give, it’s never ever gonna fade away

Enola gay, it shouldn’t ever have to end this way
Oho Enola gay, it should’ve faded our dreams away
It’s 8:15, oh that’s the time that it’s always been
We got your message on the radio, condition’s normal and you’re coming home
Enola gay, is mother proud of little boy today
Oho, this you give, it’s never ever gonna fade away
