Early on the morning of September 11, 2001, 19 hijackers took control of four commercial airliners en route to California after takeoffs from Logan International Airport in Boston, Massachusetts; Newark Liberty International Airport in Newark, New Jersey; and Washington Dulles International Airport, Loudon County, Virginia.

I (AlexK) had a night out at one of the weekly Deep Marbella 2001 Parties at the Beach Club at the Don Carlos Hotel.

At 8:46 a.m., five hijackers crashed American Airlines Flight 11 into the northern façade of the World Trade Center’s North Tower.

I (AlexK) had a good sleep until late morning, got up and slowly walked towards the beach just down the road from my apartment on Calle Hermanos Salom, Marbella.

At 9:03 a.m., another five hijackers crashed United Airlines Flight 175 into the southern façade of the South Tower.

I (AlexK) stopped at the kiosk to buy Camel cigarettes and I saw the live coverage on a 6 inch television screen of the second plane hitting the World Trade Center.

At 9:37 a.m five hijackers flew American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.

At 10:03 a.m a fourth flight, United Airlines Flight 93, under the control of four hijackers, crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania believed to have been targeted either the Capitol or the White House.

I (AlexK) rushed back to my apartment, called Bini, cancelled work and watched the live coverage all afternoon from my sofa.

I (AlexK) have lived in the United States, in Washington, D.C. from November 17th, 1986 to August 31st, 1989 and have served for the German Military Representative USA/CA at their office on 4000 Brandywine Street, Washington, D.C. and at Washington Dulles International Airport, Loudon County, Virginia.
