The Mirador was a nice place to open my eyes. I had rested. I went to the supermarket and had an Aquarius and a turkey sandwich, actually two.

It was still very early and I had only a short drive to get to Canoa Quebrada where I already had been before, for a weekend. I parked the car, went the stairs down to the beach and went for an extensive morning walk, taking pictures from the beach bars and the Canoa Quebrada symbol, the half-moon with a star, similar to the Arabian symbol, often used on their national flags .

Canoa Quebrada

I went to, what I would call the end of the beach and turned around and met a fisherman preparing his small boat for going out fishing. He looked very original, I would call his appearance very African and his hair style a huge Afro, very, very original for a fisherman. Amazing to see the preparation of his Jangada, the sophistication and the technique of every rope, to make this kind of like a big surfboard looking boat sail out on the sea. Incredible as well to see the force of this man, pushing the boat from the beach a long way to the low tide sea with the help of a rolling technique by putting round palm tree chunks underneath the surfboard bit by bit. Not to mention to finally see this surfboard sail. Respect.

Beberibe

Continued to the village of Beberibe and was surprised by the nature along the beach. The cliffs were in various colors, from white to yellowish to a selection of innumerous types of brown and eroded, to leave canyons along the beach. Desperate buggy drivers were trying to offer me a ride along the beach to the various attractions. It is low season and Brazil economically stagnating, which leaves a lot of business owners very concerned, including the local buggy drivers. I drove on to another beach of the village and was even more surprised by the panoramic and extensive cliff beaches and went for a small tour to explore.

Prainha

I was waiting for the first police contact and there he was. In between the beaches just around the street curve, the federal police had built up the control post, two cars and six armed federals. I was thinking about my Havaianas, which are not allowed, when the captain asked me for weapons and explained that they wanted to search the car. Thinking loud, I answered that the trunk is loaded, … , I did not mean weapons, I meant, two spare tires, gas tank, luggage and so on. I think they realized; though strange looking. I am simple. He gave me back the handed out documents and liberated me, continue without checking my Havaianas.

Final destination today was Aquiraz and I just went to have a look at the beach before going to the historical center logging in with the computer at the local hair dresser.

For a small understanding of the days travel, I have included a Google Earth map. The red pins mark the locations I have stopped and taken pictures. At the bottom of the page you will find a link for all the pictures I have taken. The link will open in a Google+ Album.
