As a young medical student, Che Guevara traveled throughout South America and was radicalized by the poverty, hunger and disease he witnessed.

Che Guevara became a physician, an author, a marxist revolutionary, a major figure of the Cuban Revolution, a military theorist, a diplomat and guerilla leader in Bolivia.

A major figure of the World history, his visage has become a countercultural symbol of rebellion and global insignia in popular culture.

I know you are here to kill me. Shoot, coward, you are only going to kill a man

Terán hesitated, then pointed his self-loading M2 at Guevara and opened fire, hitting him in the arms and legs.

Then, as Guevara writhed on the ground biting one of his wrists to avoid crying out, Terán fired another burst, fatally wounding him in the chest.

In all, Guevara was shot nine times by Terán. This included five times in his legs, once in the right shoulder and arm, and once in the chest and throat.

Witnesses were called to confirm his identity, amongst them the British journalist Richard Gott, the only witness to have met Guevara when he was alive.

Put on display, as hundreds of local residents filed past the body, Guevara’s corpse was considered by many to represent a Christ-like visage.

Aprendimos a quererte
Desde la histórica altura
Donde el sol de tu bravura
Le puso un cerco a la muerte.

Aquí se queda la clara,
La entrañable transparencia,
De tu querida presencia
Comandante Che Guevara.
Tu mano gloriosa y fuerte
Sobre la historia dispara
Cuando todo santa clara
Se despierta para verte.

Aquí se queda la clara,
La entrañable transparencia,
De tu querida presencia
Comandante Che Guevara.

Vienes quemando la brisa
Con soles de primavera
Para plantar la bandera
Con la luz de tu sonrisa.

Aquí se queda la clara,
La entrañable transparencia,
De tu querida presencia
Comandante Che Guevara.

Tu amor revolucionario
Te conduce a nueva empresa
Donde esperan la firmeza
De tu brazo libertario.

Aquí se queda la clara,
La entrañable transparencia,
De tu querida presencia
Comandante Che Guevara.

Seguiremos adelante
Como junto a ti seguimos
Y con Fidel te decimos:
Hasta siempre comandante.

Aquí se queda la clara,
La entrañable transparencia,
De tu querida presencia
Comandante Che Guevara.
