Sleep is still very complicated; the time you use for rest is the same as the time you might use for sleep and finally it is the body itself that gets what he needs. I think the body does not really need sleep, it is the mind. My mind is on a high speed and seems unstoppable, day and night the same. There are moments, maybe even hours that my mind is actually under control and I can direct him to certain matters, but if I let go, he does want he wants. I need to get to a balanced state of mind.

The drive through the emptiness but greatness of nature is fascinating. It has been like this for days now and my eyes cannot get enough. At the same time this kind of drive is easier, no risky curves, very little population and therefore no villages with bumpers, traffic lights or speed control. I drove quite some kilometers now and want to keep that pace. Highlights turn up by themselves.

One of the villages had a focus on car cleaning and I stopped to have the car cleaned at a good price before getting into São Luis. I had the young kids around me asking me hundred questions, just to listen to funny Gringo accent and a bit to the answers or stories that I told. Everybody was very happy about my appearance, as in that part of Brazil a white German Gringo happens once in a lifetime. It was that day today and the conversation was good for me too, actually very good, very good for my mind.

The final 100 km turning north to São Luis were a nightmare. One lane traffic, villages that had been missing for the last days turning up now one after the other, commercial businesses along the whole way, innumerous bumpers, wholes, speed controls and more trucks than cars. The stress started way before even getting into the city. To my surprise then, the city itself was actually calmer and without any problem. I went straight to the historic center.

São Luis

I had good look at one of the tourist maps to locate myself and to locate where was a good chance to park the car and spend the night. I went to the beach just opposite the historic center, probably a class A area with new construction front line, including Cyrela, construction company from Sao Paulo that I knew too well from work.

For a small understanding of the days travel, I have included a Google Earth map. The red pins mark the locations I have stopped and taken pictures. At the bottom of the page you will find a link for all the pictures I have taken. The link will open in a Google+ Album.
