2015-09-26 Rio Chico – Maiquetia

Today everything was 30.

Today I wanted to get to the airport of Caracas, which is actually located in the city of Maiquetia as quick as possible to have internet access. I had chosen though the old and curvy coast road. Yesterday had already been a beautiful drive but today would even be better. The first bit went straight through the rainforest a bit away from the coast. To see the fantastic nature in this way; it could not have been organized better from the best local tourist / travel agency than to take exactly this drive. I drove like 30 km/h, definitely no more than 30 mp/h in order to enjoy every meter, every curve, the asphalt and the gravel, just everything.

Rio Chico

I was driving closer and closer to Caracas and Maiquetia but the villages I passed still had their village character and had not been absorbed and changed by the weekend tourists from the cities. So I passed untouched nature and a handful of villages before about 50 kilometers before the airport is suddenly began to change and after the first ten kilometers the infrastructure had taken full control of the beach front.

The road was divided into a grey asphalted road for the cars and a green concrete road for bicycles and pedestrians. Together with the beginning of this divided beach road the beach itself became busy and kilometers of parked cars lined up with thousands of people actually making use of the sports facilities divided into cyclists and runners.

Maiquetia

I was back in civilization and around the next corner the hotels and high-rise buildings began and did not stop anymore until I reached Maiqutia. Driving into the city it was almost midday and with civilization the first McDonald’s appeared. After weeks of diet and simple village food I wanted a simple city food and went for a Cheeseburger menu for 450 Bolivares equivalent to 3 Brazilian Reales or 2 Euros. I continued to the airport and parked the car on the long term parking, went inside and connected the notebook to the internet. Only the departure area of the international part had actually free internet but I stayed at a point closest to the area and had a decent signal. I worked the whole afternoon and continued even back at the parking area.

The light of the notebook alarmed immediately a security lady who informed me that staying in the car was prohibited and working with electronics and light dangerous. At nighttime the security needed total darkness for their work, to be able to control the cars coming and leaving from their high stand which was in every third row of the parking. Now that I had made myself known to the security of the night I changed from the international long term parking to the national long term parking, turned all lights off and prepared for the night. You can believe that it took exactly 30 minutes for me to fall asleep.

Today everything was 30.
