The characteristic lead melody of the soundtrack took on a life of its own after german rave group U96 created a remixed ‘techno version’ in 1991.

The title theme ‘Das Boot‘ became an international hit. It took the German single charts by storm and reached the top spot in 1992, where it spent an unprecedented 13 weeks.

Das Boot became a number-one hit also in Austria, Israel, Norway and Switzerland and was a top ten hit in Denmark, Finland, France, the Netherlands and Sweden.

The song was the subject of many remixes throughout the years.
